A fabulous new book release was presented to the public at a Book Launch on the 7th of November 2009. The book is called; BOGGO ROAD PRISON – Riots to Ruin with 310 pages and 150 photographs, most in colour. The book also has an alphabetical and historic list of officer’s names that served at the prison. The launch was in conjunction with the annual Retired Prison Officers Association of Queensland function, held at the Carina Leagues Club.

John Peel excelled in organising this large activity and it was estimated that 140 people attended with family members. Mr Ray Cassells was the master of ceremonies for the launch and Mr John Peel was the MC for the retired officers.

As book launches go, this one was extremely successful and could be seen through the volume of sales and orders taken on the day. The book was received by most of the retired officers with an open mind of what happened prior and leading up to its final closure.

The Boggo Road Gaol Historical Society (BRGHS) were present during the day and it had an enormous intake of retired officers signing up and paying subscriptions to the society for the preservation of its history. They also had a display of items for sale during the day.

One minutes silence was held for all the officers that had passed but not forgotten.

There were many comments, the main one was, can't wait until next year!
